The Head Coach of Nigeria’s U18 Women’s Handball team Shittu Agboola, has named his final list of players for the 19th Africa Women’s Youth Nations Championship, scheduled to take place in Monastir, Tunisia, from September 16 to 23.
News About Nigeria gathered that the national U18 girls have been training at the Rowe Park Sports Center in Yaba, Lagos.
The training camp initially included 18 talented players, however, after more than two weeks of training, Coach Shittu has finally selected his preferred final squad of 15 players.
According to reports, many of these young athletes were instrumental in the team’s recent success at the IHF Trophy Africa Zone 3 tournament and the IHF Trophy Africa Continental Phase Championship.
The 19th Africa Women’s Youth Nations Championship has been dubbed to be a challenging one for Nigeria’s team, as they challenge other talented teams from across Africa.
Meanwhile, Coach Shittu believes the selected players will put up a good fight at the tournament, and claim the silverware, as they did at the IHF Trophy Africa Zone 3 tournament and the IHF Trophy Africa Continental Phase Championship.
Nigeria handball supporters are hoping for positive results by the team at the tournament. Recall there have been arguments about poor funding of sports like handball and others in the country.
The country’s sports agencies have been criticized on several occasions for being selective in the sports they give adequate support to, while others struggled with poor facilities and underfunding.
