The Victims Support Fund (VSF), a non-governmental organization, has provided food assistance to approximately 3,000 households across three local government areas (LGAs) in Kaduna State.
News About Nigeria gathered that VSF extended the hand of help to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) located in Chikun, Giwa, and Zangon Kataf LGAs, in a bid to help cushion their sufferings, having been attacked by bandits and terrorists.
The food aid comprising essential items such as rice, beans, vegetable oil, salt, seasoning, and sugar, was distributed to 1,000 beneficiaries in each of the three LGAs.
The VSF which was established to support victims of various crises is said to have focused on four key areas, including livelihood, with the aim of helping victims of banditry and terrorism recover and reintegrate into society.
Sunday Oyibe, one of the officials of the NGO, emphasized the importance of providing food assistance to the victims given their dire circumstances.
He stated, “This is the first phase of the distribution, and we will sustain the gesture for the next two years as directed by our Chairman, retired Lt-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma.”
David Garnvwa, Team Lead of the VSF group overseeing Kaduna and Adamawa states, explained that the foundation is currently active in nine states across Nigeria.
He highlighted that the food aid is part of VSF’s efforts to address the immediate, medium, and long-term needs of IDPs, with a focus on alleviating their suffering.
Silas Ideva, the Programme Manager of Carelink Resource Foundation (CRF), a partner organization in the program, also emphasized that their goal is to ensure vulnerable households benefit from such interventions, to help improve their well-being and livelihoods.
He noted that VSF has also provided entrepreneurial training and starter packs to empower beneficiaries for self-reliance.
The IDPs in the benefiting LGAs have endured the devastating impact of banditry and terrorist attacks, resulting in large numbers of displaced individuals and families.
