Former Anambra governor and the presidential candidate of Labour Party at the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi, has taken to his social media page to mourn the doyen of accounting, Pa Akintola Williams, who passed away on Monday.
Commiserating with the family of the accounting icon in a tweet on Tuesday, Mr Obi said he will be missed by the entire nation.
Mr Obi said the accounting doyen lived a productive and fruitful life.
“On behalf of my family, I commiserate with the family of Late Pa Akintola Williams who has just passed unto glory. I thank God for his long, productive and fruitful life, and for the great legacies he left behind in the field of accounting as well as his visible contributions to the economy,” Obi wrote.
According to Obi, Pa Akintola Williams made a substantial contribution to the growth of the country’s financial industry as well as the development of the accounting profession.
He also served as a mentor for many young people who wanted to become accountants.
Mr Obi further said that the accounting icon “will be missed by the whole country.

After passing the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) qualifying examination in 1949, Pa Williams is claimed to be the first Sub-Saharan African to become a chartered accountant.
By assisting in the founding of the Association of Accountants in Nigeria, which later evolved into the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), the icon played a key part in the growth of the accounting profession in the nation.
