Nigerian music sensation, Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, recently opened up about the complexities of fame, likening it to a ‘manipulative spirit’, News About Nigeria reports.

In an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, the ‘Bandana’ singer said that fame, much like money and sex, can lead individuals to make costly mistakes.

He said, “Fame is a fucked up spirit. It’s like money, it’s like sex. Those three things can fuck you up mentally.”

The musician went on to explain that fame can have an effect on one’s thoughts and behaviours.

He noted that it can manipulate individuals into actions they might not have otherwise taken, making them feel invincible and leading to potentially disastrous decisions.

The YBNL singer went on to point out that when a famous person makes a mistake, everyone sees it.

“And when you are famous and you make mistakes, everyone will see you. It’s not like when you are a normal person that you can quickly correct them. Omo, there are some mistakes that are very costly, and I do not want to make costly mistakes.”

Fireboy DML released his debut studio album ‘Laughter, Tears and Goosebumps’ on 29 November 2019.

It was initially scheduled for release on 25 November. The album’s music is a brand of R&B that combines love and social issues with empirical songwriting.

LTG comprises 13 tracks and doesn’t feature any guest artiste; it amassed over 6 million streams on Spotify three days after its release.
