Young English forward Mason Greenwood has been spotted training with his new club Getafe in a seven-year-old Nike boots after being dropped by Nike, News About Nigeria reports.

Greenwood is set for his debut in La Liga later this month and his choice of boots has gathered reactions among his supporters.

The 23-year-old was putting on Nike Mercurial Superfly 4 boots during training, even though his contract with the sportswear brand was terminated in 2022.

It’s worth noting that while the choice of boots may be unusual, it does not necessarily reflect Greenwood’s match readiness.

His training routine appears to focus on strength and conditioning, which is undoubtedly vital for a professional athlete of his type. Meanwhile, Getafe supporters had earlier expressed a warm welcome to Greenwood, with the club posting a video of fans cheering him on as he arrived at the training ground near Madrid.

Earlier this week, Greenwood ended his silence after being photographed holding up his Getafe shirt following his departure from Manchester United. The 23-year-old striker expressed his excitement about joining the La Liga side and conveyed his eagerness to get started.

Getafe secured Greenwood’s services just before the summer transfer window deadline. Although the deal does not involve a loan fee, Manchester United will continue to cover the majority of the player’s £75,000-a-week wage during his time in Spain.

Greenwood’s debut for Getafe may not occur until September 17 when they face Osasuna. His departure from Manchester United came after an internal probe into his arrest last October, although all charges related to the incident were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February.
