Senator Magnus Abe has said that the Presidential Candidates of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar and his counterpart of the Labour Party, Peter Obi deserve the respect of Nigerian’s for their petitions against President Bola Tinubu, News About Nigeria reports.
According to him, both Atiku and Obi deserve respect for their patriotism in contesting the elections and pursuing their grievances within the constitutional provisions.
Abe said this while congratulating Tinubu on his victory at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC), describing it as a step towards actualising the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“Let me also congratulate the petitioners: Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Gregory Obi. As long as they pursue their grievances within our constitutional provisions, they deserve our respect, and their patriotism in contesting the elections must be acknowledged by us all, because without patriots like them our democracy will be a joke,” he stated.
He also charged the candidates of the PDP and Labour Party to extend a hand of fellowship to Tinubu and join hands with him to address the challenges of insecurity and economic hardship that is bedeviling the nation.
“At some stage in our politics, whatever our personal feelings are, our country must come first. The progress and prosperity of our people must now come first, in the interest of the nation it may be time to move on,” he advised.
The ex-senator also noted that, however, Atiku and Obi have the right to decide their next steps. Whatever choice they make regarding their constitutional right to appeal, should still be respected by Nigerians.
