The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, in Kaduna State, Rev. John Hayab, on Thursday charged Nigerians to respect the judgement of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, News About Nigeria reports.

According to him, Nigerians should uphold the ruling of the nation’s judiciary and unite for the progress of the country.

Hayab made the plea following the judgment of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja on Wednesday, September 6 by the five-man judicial panel led by Justice Haruna Tsammani, which upheld the election of President Bola Tinubu as winner of the February 25 presidential polls.

“We should, as Nigerians, respect the judicial system for the interest of peace and harmonious coexistence of the country.

”Nigerians must not allow themselves to be used to divide the country, based on political differences, but unite and work with the person the court rules in his favour to lead the affairs of the land for development to thrive in Nigeria,” he added.

The religious leader also advised Nigerians to desist from being involved in activities that could lead to chaos or destabilise the nation’s growth.

Hayab further urged Nigerian politicians and their supporters to accept the court’s decision and allow the rule of law to take its due course, even if the judgement did not go according to their expectations.

“Politicians come and go but the country remains. Therefore, we must think inward and not allow some selfish individuals to put the country into confusion that could lead to chaos and result in the loss of lives and property, and which could set the country backwards, instead of consolidating Nigeria’s progress.”
