Immediate past Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, has hailed the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) judges for delivering justice despite intimidation and prejudice.
Commending the judges in a statement released by Garba Shehu, Buhari suggested that the tribunal verdict was a victory for democracy and the people.
“The former President said the PEPC has written history by spurning intimidation and all manner of prejudice to deliver justice according to law to a majority of citizens whose wish is that the choices they made are respected,” a statement by Garba Shehu read.
The former president further suggested that the court verdict signaled the end electioneering period, he further called on aggrieved political parties and politicians to put the heat and dust behind and work with the Bola Tinubu-led government to ensure the progress of Nigeria.
News About Nigeria recalls the PEPT on Wednesday struck out all petitions brought against by the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, and that of Labour Party Peter Obi against the emergence of President Bola Tinubu.
The verdict, which sparked several reactions, was rejected by both the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party.
Rejecting the tribunal’s verdict, Atiku Abubakar lamented that the ruling was a dent in the progress made in returning the people’s trust in free and fair elections. He further announced that he would be approaching the Supreme Court to seek redress.
On its part, Labour Party, had while rejecting the tribunal verdict, revealed that it was waiting for the certified true copy of the court’s ruling before announcing its next line of action.
