Pro-Tinubu demonstrators stormed the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s location on Wednesday, demanding that the court rule in Tinubu’s favour while Nigeria waits for the tribunal’s decision.
As previously reported by News About Nigeria, the PEPT had set this coming Wednesday, September 6, as the deadline for issuing its decision on the petitions submitted to the tribunal by the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidates challenging Bola Tinubu’s election as president of Nigeria.
Our reporter gathered that the Pro Tinubu demonstrators, who are thought to be Asari Dokubo militia members and who carried placards, were yelling outside the courthouse.
Some protesters carried placards that read, “Niger Deltans Stand with the mandate given to BAT by over 200 million Nigerians,” while others urged the opposition to “stop living in illusion” by implying that President Bola Tinubu won the majority of votes in the presidential election that took place earlier this year.
However, tensions are still high as Nigerians wait impatiently for the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal decision.
Allegations have been made that the ruling party planned to use intimidation to persuade the judiciary to rule in its favour.
Assuring Nigerians that there were no efforts to influence the tribunal, presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale had stated on Monday that the president wasn’t concerned about the PEPT’s decision.
However, the Labour Party voiced concern on Tuesday night over what it deemed to be a preemptive statement made by retired Supreme Court Justice Mary Odili regarding the imminent ruling of the Presidential Election Petition Court, PEPC, planned for Wednesday.
According to Mary Odili, Wole Olanipekun, the attorney representing President Bola Tinubu in the elections petitions tribunal, is a master of electoral issues whose proficiency in tribunal litigation gives hope for success.
