Nigerian female rapper Blessing Akiode Mariam aka Candy Bleakz, has addressed her exclusion from the nominations list at the Headies Awards.

The 16th Headies Awards ceremony was held on Sunday, September 3 at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre in Atlanta, USA.

In a recent interview on Cool FM, hosted by BBNaija reality star Tacha Akide and monitored by News About Nigeria,  Candy Bleakz shared her thoughts on the snub and how she felt about it.

She began by acknowledging that if this had happened last year, she might have taken it personally.

However, she noted that her perspective had changed over time, and she didn’t feel upset about it now.

Candy Bleakz pointed out that, given the songs in the ‘Rookie of the Year’ and ‘Street Hop’ categories, her 2022 hit song ‘Tikuku’ should have made the list.

The ‘Wale’ singer expressed her belief that her track deserved recognition based on its impact and popularity.

In her words, “If it was like last year, I would have taken it personal. But Asake was my guy and I know how things are going. They gave Asake like eight awards (nominations).

“I feel like the Rookie category and the street song, looking at the songs there, I feel like ‘Tikuku’ should be there. There is evidence when you go to my page. I didn’t see it on the award (nominations).

“I had the biggest song last year.”
