With less than 24 hours to the delivery of the judgment of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja on Wednesday, Nigeria’s military and Police Force have kicked against any form of protest before, during and after the judgement.
According to them, they will not condone any unlawful action by troublemakers in the guise of protest.
This was said by the Director, Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, who spoke on behalf of the police, cautioned those planning mischief and violence on the day to discard the idea.
The tribunal, in a statement on Monday, announced that it would on Wednesday deliver judgment on the petitions challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
News About Nigeria had reported that, the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja on Monday fixed Wednesday as the day it will deliver judgement in the case of Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar Abubakar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recall that the Chairman of INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, had on March 1 declared Tinubu the president-elect because his party scored the majority of votes cast in the poll.
According to INEC’s result in the February 25th Presidential Election, Tinubu polled 8.8 million to defeat the PDP’s standard bearer, Atiku Abubakar, who scored 6.9 million, while Peter Obi, who came third polled 6.1 million votes.
The tribunal Justices who will deliver the verdict on Wednesday are the Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Haruna Tsammani; Justice Stephen Adah of the Court of Appeal (Asaba Division), Justice Monsurat Bolaji-Yusuf , Court of Appeal (Asaba Division), Justices Moses Ugo (Court of Appeal, Kano) and Abba Mohammed of the Ibadan Division of the Court of Appeal.
