Civil servants employed by the Lagos State Government have opted out of the two-day warning strike scheduled by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), News About Nigeria understands.
The NLC had announced its intention to stage a nationwide two-day warning strike on Tuesday and Wednesday, with the possibility of an indefinite strike if the Federal Government failed to address the issues affecting the masses.
The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has decided not to participate in the proposed warning strike, urging Lagos State civil servants, who are members of the TUC, to continue working.
In an official statement, the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Lagos State branch, announced their decision.
The statement read, “This is to inform all members of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Lagos State Branch, that all affiliates of TUC will not be embarking on any proposed strike slated for Tuesday, 5th September 2023. We urge all our members to go about their normal business.”
Similar to this development, some workers employed by the Oyo State Government showed up for work on Tuesday morning, ignoring the NLC’s warning strike call.
The Secretariat gates were said to be open and employees arrived at their workplaces as early as 6:30 a.m.
Mass transit buses dedicated to transporting workers were also in operation, although not at full capacity, as reported by The Nation, suggesting that some workers may have chosen not to participate in the strike.
While some areas of the Secretariat appeared sparsely populated, with only a few people arriving at their duty posts, the overall response varied among workers.
