IGP Sets Up 7-Man Panel Over Cadet Who Died Of Starvation At Police College

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has set up a seven-person panel to investigate the death of A.S. Jika, a 100-level cadet who allegedly starved to death at the police school in Wudil, Kano state.

Making this disclosure in a statement made available on Tuesday, Police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi detailed that the IGP appointed the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, DIG Abiodun Alabi to head the panel.

“The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has set up a 7-man Panel of Inquiry on Monday 4th September, 2023, headed by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Abuja, DIG Abiodun Alabi, fdc, with a mandate to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the cadet’s death,” statement by the Force PRO Mr Adejobi read.

The IGP gave the panel 4 days to submit a comprehensive report detailing its findings and recommendations.

News About Nigeria recalls that Jika, dropped dead at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State, on Saturday, after being continuously starved and malnourished for over two weeks.

Some of the cadets accused the Commandant, Assistant Inspector-General Sadiq Abubakar, of being haughty and mismanaging the money allotted for the students’ meals.

Early on Saturday morning, Jika, a Police College student in the department of computer science and a native of Adamawa State, passed away while in the bathroom.

Hussain Suleman, the academy’s spokesperson, claimed in a statement released on Sunday that the deceased sought medical attention at the academy clinic on August 29 and was attended to.

Suleman claimed that the clinic’s doctor requested that the dead make routine returns for further evaluation.

However, the police school made no comment regarding the claim of starvation.
