Popular Nigerian comedian Koffi has credited singer Tekno for creating Afrobeats, a statement he said he was prepared to firmly stand by.
He said this in a recent interview on Galaxy TV while commending the ‘Diana’ crooner for his significant role in taking Afrobeats to the world stage.
During the interview that News About Nigeria monitored, he credited Tekno with revolutionising Afrobeats by introducing fresh elements.
“Tekno created this Afrobeats. Beat me, fight me, I will defend it to the core.
“Before Afrobeats could cross globally, everybody was just trying to find it. But you see those sampling sounds into it, and then the bounce; it was Tekno that discovered it,” he said.
Koffi pointed out some of Tekno’s achievements, including the hit song ‘Pana and its captivating music video, which he claimed played a pivotal role in Afrobeats’ journey to international stardom.
He also highlighted Tekno’s role in creating two of Davido’s hit songs ‘If’ and ‘Fall’, which achieved worldwide acclaim and popularity.
“He was the one that brought ‘Pana’ and did that very nice video that people liked. Then he handed it over to Davido.
“‘If’ and ‘Fall’ were created by Tekno and they were the first two songs that went global and viral.”
Koffi mentioned that despite Tekno’s health issues, which affected not only his vocals but his overall well-being, the artiste continued to make significant contributions to the music industry.
“He has contributed quietly in a lot of ways. But because he was ill, it was worse than just his vocals, and he did not showcase his pain to social media, they relegated him.”
