Stand-up comedian, Oghenekowhoyan Onaibe Desmond, popularly known as Destalker, has revealed a surprising fact of his life, saying that he acquired his dance skills during his previous occupation as an undertaker, News About Nigeria gathered.
The 39-year-old comedian shared this revelation during his recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, co-hosted by actor Chinedu Ani Emmanuel, aka Nedu.
Born in Delta State, Destalker’s journey into comedy was a gradual one.
He disclosed that after completing his university education, he initially worked as a commercial motorcyclist, commonly referred to as an ‘okada’ rider.
However, his career path took an unexpected turn as he ventured into the profession of an undertaker, where he was involved in handling dead people and coffins.
When Nedu questioned whether he sold coffins during his time as an undertaker, Destalker clarified that he assisted in carrying coffins rather than selling them.
“Baba, don’t downgrade me. I carry coffins. I no sell. Na e I take learn dancing,” he said.
It was during this period that he learnt to dance, honing his skills during undertaking rehearsals.
He noted that people now admire his dance moves on stage, not realising that he acquired them while working in the funeral industry.
Today, he incorporates the unique dance skills he developed during those unconventional rehearsals into his comedy performances.
“So, as you dey the process, dey pinpoint things because you go use them tomorrow. Now, people go say, ‘Ah! I love the you dance when you are on stage.’
“I learnt dancing from undertaking rehearsals. But now I infuse the dance I learnt from undertaking into my comedy.”
