As the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal prepares to deliver its final judgment on the petitions challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s election victory, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has instructed its staff to stay at home on Wednesday, September 6, the day of the judgment.
News About Nigeria had earlier reported that the tribunal will convene to hear the petitions filed by the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party, Peter Obi, challenging Tinubu’s election as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision to televise the judgment live by interested television stations was announced earlier by Umar Bangari, the chief registrar of the court, as part of an effort to promote transparency and openness in the process.
However, in a memo signed by Oluwaleye David, on behalf of the chief registrar, staff of the court were instructed to stay at home on September 6 to create a peaceful atmosphere during the tribunal session.
Meanwhile, a recent report has shed light on the fact that President-elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the declared winner of the 2023 presidential elections, could have been defeated.
According to a report by TheCable, all of Tinubu’s major opponents were former members of the main opposition party, the PDP, and collectively garnered 14,582,740 votes, surpassing Tinubu’s vote tally that secured his victory.
The report argued that if the candidates had remained united, they could have ousted President Tinubu and one of them emerge as the country’s number one citizen.
However, much is yet to be revealed ahead of Wednesday, as all parties to the suit remain hopeful for a fair judgment that will reflect the minds of the people.
