The Department of State Services (DSS) has released a statement revealing its discovery of a plot by certain groups in various parts of the country to stage violent protests, News About Nigeria gathered.

The DSS disclosed this in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer Peter Afunanya, on its official X account, revealing that such protest aims to discredit the Federal Government and security agencies on several socio-economic issues.

According to the statement, “intelligence reports, the instigators of these protests include politicians who are actively mobilizing unsuspecting student leaders, ethnic-based associations, youths, and disgruntled groups to participate in the planned actions.”

The DSS noted it had also identified the key figures behind the said plot and is actively monitoring them to prevent the country from descending into chaos.

“In response to this alarming development, the DSS is calling on Vice-Chancellors of universities and heads of tertiary institutions to dissuade their students from participating in activities that could disrupt public peace,” the statement partly read.

Additionally, the intelligence body urged parents and guardians to counsel their children and wards against getting involved in actions that go against law and order.

While acknowledging the government’s efforts to address the nation’s challenges, the DSS warned those intent on undermining national security to reconsider their actions.

The agency emphasised its readiness to take legal action against individuals and groups involved in the nefarious plans.
