President Bola Tinubu has made changes to the leadership of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), News About Nigeria reports.

The appointment of Chiedu Ebie as the new NDDC chairman brought a shift in leadership, as the board’s current chairman, Lauretta Onochie, appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari, has been removed from her position.

Tinubu’s decision to appoint Ebie to take charge of the regional agency responsible for the development of Nigeria’s Niger Delta region was communicated via a tweet from the office of the Presidency, as confirmed by the president’s spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, on Tuesday.

The announcement emphasized that the appointment is effective immediately and anticipates that the new board and management team will usher in a fresh era of successful administration for the regional agency.

Meanwhile, Ebie, the newly appointed NDDC chairman, has a history of political engagement. He was an ally of James Ibori, a prominent Nigerian politician and served as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Delta State during the tenure of former governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

However, it’s important to note that Ebie faced suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) earlier in the year due to alleged anti-party activities.

The new board also includes a diverse group of individuals from various states, reflecting the regional representation of the NDDC’s responsibilities.

Among the appointees are Victor Antai, Ifedayo Abegunde, Dimaro Denyanbofa, Abasi Ndikan Nkono and others, who will serve as state representatives for their respective regions.

Additionally, individuals like Nick Wende and Namdas Abdulrazak have been designated as zonal representatives for North Central and North East, respectively.
