The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have both selected Nyesom Wike to serve on their campaign councils for the forthcoming governorship election in Bayelsa State.

News About Nigeria gathered that the All Progressives Congress had set up campaign councils for the Kogi, Bayelsa and Imo State governorship elections.

Former Rivers State Governor Wike, who split with the PDP just before the election, was later named Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) by President Bola Tinubu of the APC.

The minister was designated a member of the APC campaign committee for the Bayelsa governorship race, despite the fact that he has not yet resigned as a PDP member.

“The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), H. E. Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON, in consultation with the National Working Committee (NWC), has approved the composition of the Bayelsa State National Gubernatorial Campaign Council with the primary purpose of leading the Gubernatorial Campaign in Bayelsa State and ensuring the triumph of our great Party at the November 11, 2023 Governorship election,”  statement by the APC had earlier read.

Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State is the other chairman of the council in addition to Wike. Abubakar Badaru, the defence minister, Godswill Akpabio, the president of the senate, and George Akume, the SGF secretary, are the co-chairmen.

The PDP had Wike on its list of members for its campaign council for the Bayelsa governorship race weeks before he was selected to be in the campaign council of the ruling party.
