The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has announced the suspension of its presidential candidate in the February 25 presidential election, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, for alleged anti-party activities, News About Nigeria understands.

Kwankwaso suspension also applies to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

During a special general assembly held at Rockview Hotels in Apapa, the party members, through a voice vote, endorsed the suspensions for a period of six months.

Additionally, the assembly appointed new national officers, with Agbo Major as the acting National Chairman and Mr. Ogini Olaposi as the acting National Secretary, alongside 18 others.

The Secretary of the BoT, Babayo Muhammed Abdulahi, addressed the media at the end of the meeting in Lagos.

He accused Kwankwaso of engaging in discussions with prominent political figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate), and Mr. Peter Obi (the presidential candidate of the Labour Party), without authorization from the board.

Abdulahi further stated that Kwankwaso had been stripped of his status as the NNPP national leader by the BoT. He highlighted that the suspension of the NNPP founder was a significant violation of the party’s constitution.

The BoT Secretary also announced that Boniface Aniebonam had resigned as the BoT chairman and was replaced by Tope Aluko, with Abdulahi as the new BoT Secretary. High Chief Tony Obioha was elected as the BoT spokesperson.

Abdulahi revealed that the pre-election Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Kwankwasiya Movement, The National Movement (TNM), and the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) had been rendered void by the actions of the NWC.

In response, acting National Chairman Agbo Major vowed to work towards healing the divisions created by the suspended NWC members.

He emphasized the party’s commitment to being the most people-oriented and inclusive party in the country, encouraging displaced members to return to its fold.

The special general assembly meeting was attended by the new NWC and members from various parts of the country.
