40 Illegal Miners Face Detention In Enugu

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 40 individuals suspected of engaging in illegal coal mining in Enugu state, News About Nigeria reports.

This was disclosed by the NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Muhammed Dada. He noted that during the operation, law enforcement officials recovered a significant amount of equipment and materials, including pumping machines, diggers, head-pans, shovels, and four unregistered Hanvan G7 trucks.

Additionally, a Toyota Hilux van with registration number MUS 513 HU, two heavy-duty batteries, a substantial quantity of coal, and a motorcycle were seized.

Commandant Dada emphasized the gravity of these illegal activities, describing them as a serious form of economic sabotage. He underscored the NSCDC’s role as the primary agency responsible for safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure.

He assured that individuals with valid clearances and legitimate mining operation licenses would be treated in accordance with the law.
