The new Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has responded to calls for his suspension from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), News About Nigeria gathered.

He described those making such demands as “Reggae Dancers.” Wike, who previously served two terms as the governor of Rivers State under the PDP, made these comments during a press conference shortly after his swearing-in as an APC minister on Monday.

During the press conference, Wike highlighted that 10 PDP governors had also submitted names to President Bola Tinubu for appointments, questioning why he was the sole target for criticism.

He stated, “There’s no PDP Governor who didn’t make nominations for Mr. President. All of them made ten nominations each.”

Wike further clarified that he had informed the PDP’s national, zonal, and state chairmen, along with the minority leaders of the House of Representatives, the Senate, and his state governor, before accepting President Tinubu’s offer.

According to him, all these PDP leaders supported his decision to accept the ministerial appointment.

He emphasized that he had written to the National Party Chairman about his appointment, urging Nigerians to disregard the negative voices calling for his suspension from the PDP.

Wike urged the public to focus on more pressing issues and not be distracted by “bad belle losers.”

Wike’s appointment as an APC minister while remaining a PDP member has sparked debates and discussions in the country.

However, his clarifications are expected to settle some turbulent waters, as he already shed light on the consultations and support he received from within the PDP before accepting the ministerial position.
