In a move to uphold construction regulations and ensure the safety of residents, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has initiated the demolition of a five-floor structure in the state, News About Nigeria gathered.

The building reportedly situated at 7, BreadFruit Street on Lagos Island, has been marked by the body, citing violations of construction laws as the reason behind the action.

The announcement of this move was made by the LASBCA General Manager, Mr. Gbolahan Oki, in a statement released on Monday.

The statement issued by Mrs. Adetayo Akitoye-Asagba, the Assistant Director of Public Affairs for LASBCA, outlined the agency’s commitment to enforcing building regulations and preventing hazards associated with illegal construction.

Oki emphasized that the owner of the building had failed to obtain any necessary approvals from the agency, a violation of the legal framework governing construction activities across the state.

Despite receiving warnings and notices to cease construction, the developer is said to have continued with the project.

Further investigation revealed that the developer’s request for a development permit had been rejected because the area fell under government land supervision by the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency.

The LASBCA General Manager reiterated the agency’s firm resolve to ensuring that all building construction adheres to established protocols, with the primary objective of safeguarding the lives and property of residents.

He also conveyed the agency’s commitment to certifying new buildings across the state as suitable for habitation.

In light of these developments, Oki appealed to property owners and developers to consistently adhere to the state’s building codes.
