WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury believes that he and Anthony Joshua have played a pivotal role in shaping the future of British boxing, News About Nigeria reports.

Both fighters have held titles in the sport’s premier division, with Joshua reigning as the IBF, WBA, and WBO champion before facing consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury who still holds the WBC belt and claims to be the lineal heavyweight champion, acknowledges the impact of their individual dominance on aspiring British heavyweights.

He spoke to Sky Sports about the inspiration they have provided, saying, “We’ve given them a lot of hope that it can be done.”

Before Fury’s rise, Britain had produced only a handful of world heavyweight champions throughout boxing history.

Fury and Joshua’s success has formed a new era, encouraging more British fighters to pursue greatness in the heavyweight division.

Fury highlighted some promising talents emerging from the UK, including David Adeleye, Solomon Dacres, Johnny Fisher, Frazer Clarke, Nathan Gorman, and Daniel Dubois.

While he believes there is an abundance of talent, Fury emphasized that these fighters are still in the early stages of their careers and have a way to go before reaching the world stage.

“I don’t think they’re anywhere near world level at the moment,” Fury remarked, acknowledging the potential of the young prospects.

He suggested that they should aim for English titles and possibly British titles at this stage of their development.

Despite the long road ahead, Fury sees a bright future for British boxing with a crop of promising fighters who can carry the torch in the heavyweight division.
