Kwara Government Appoints State Commissioner of Police to Oversee Palliative Distribution

President Bola Tinubu-led government on Thursday approved N5 billion as palliative for each state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to enable them to procure food items for distribution to the poor in their respective states.

Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has appointed the Kawara State Commissioner of Police Ebun Oluwarotimi Adelesi to head the committee that will exclusively oversee the distribution of palliatives to citizens of the state.

Making this disclosure in a statement made available on his official Twitter page, the Kwara state governor further detailed that the Emir of Shonga Dr. Haliru Yahya,  will support the police commissioner for seamless supervision of palliative distribution in the state.

“For transparency and fairness to all, distribution of the palliatives will be overseen exclusively by a committee headed by the Kwara State Police Commissioner Ebun Oluwarotimi Adelesi, who will be supported by the Emir of Shonga Dr. Haliru Yahya, religious leaders, civil society leaders, and other important stakeholders in the state,” statement by the Kwara state governor read.

He further revealed that Kwara state had received N2bn out of the N4bn relief funds that the Federal Government released to states for the purchase of rice to be distributed en masse to vulnerable members of the public to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal.

The governor disclosed that the state awaits a balance of N2bn of the funds as well as N1bn worth of maize (40,000 bags) which the Central Bank of Nigeria is selling to each state from the national strategic reserve.

” I have ordered the immediate purchase of rice in the value of the amount. eir welfare at this time and always,” he added.
