Delta Queens, the flagbearers for Nigeria in the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B playoff, has arrived in Benin City, Edo State, with a strong determination to make the country proud in the competition, News About Nigeria reports.
Competing in Group A, Delta Queens, based in Asaba, will kick off their campaign on August 18 against USFA Burkina Faso at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
The other teams in their group are Atletico D’Abidjan and Sam Nelly FC of Benin Republic.
With the withdrawal of one team, Group B now consists of three contenders: Ampem Darkoa of Ghana, AS Garde FC of Niger Republic, and Friends of the World FC of Togo.
Players and officials of Delta Queens expressed their commitment to securing the ticket for the next phase of the competition.
One of the players mentioned, “We have worked so hard for this competition, and I am sure we will get the ticket.” They called on football enthusiasts in Benin City to support their efforts to clinch the CAF Champions League ticket for Nigeria.
Chairman of the Delta Sports Commission, Tonobok Okowa, emphasized the importance of remaining focused and avoiding complacency in approaching the matches.
He highlighted the ambition of every team in the competition to secure the ticket and wished Delta Queen success.
The CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU B playoff will take place from August 18 to September 1 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
While the competition lasts, the Delta Queens take the field, with the goal of achieving victory and bringing honor to their nation in the two weeks long tournament.
