After successfully meeting with the Niger military junta government in Niamey,  the capital of Niger, former Emir of Kano Sanusi Lamido Sanusi on Wednesday night headed to the Presidential villa to meet President Bola Tinubu.

News About Nigeria had earlier reported that the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria on Wednesday met with the leader of the Niger military junta.

The meeting came as a surprise to diplomats since the Niger Junta-led government earlier turned down attempts by President Bola Tinubu ECOWAS to meet with the military government.

However, details of his meeting were not made public.

Further reports detailed that the former emir of Kano headed straight to the presidential villa after he returned from Niamey. According to reports the former emir got to the presidential villa at about 8:25 p.m.

Recall that the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) had earlier opposed sanctions slammed against the Niger military Junta and  kicked against ECOWAS invasion plans

The meeting comes ahead of the Bola Tinubu-led ECOWAS leaders’ meeting scheduled for Thursday.

Leaders of ECOWAS will meet on Thursday to deliberate on possible measures it could take to return the country back to democratic rule.

The Tinubu-led union had earlier imposed sanctions on the junta government, cutting off the power supply and giving the junta a 7-day ultimatum to return the country to democratic rule.

However, on expiration of the ultimatum, prominent Nigerians have continued to caution President Tinubu against adopting military might against the Niger junta government saying that Nigeria will be heavily affected by attempts to attack the Nigerien Junta.
