The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has addressed the recent statement issued by FIFPRO, the world body of professional footballers, regarding the bonus dispute involving the Super Falcons, News About Nigeria checked.
The NFF dismissed FIFPRO’s statement as an attempt to make noise from a distance, asserting that it had a prior agreement with the players about their earnings at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The NFF highlighted that FIFA introduced a new payment structure that provided better compensation for all participating teams, a move that was welcomed by the players.
The Federation emphasized that FIFPRO’s intervention is unnecessary and that it will fulfill its commitments to the players as agreed.
The NFF revealed that it had reached an understanding with the players regarding their payments, but FIFA’s improved package was subsequently embraced.
Notably, had the Super Falcons progressed further in the tournament, their earnings could have been significantly higher.
The NFF commended the team’s efforts and its remarkable performance in the group stage and Round of 16.
The Nigerian football governing body clarified that it has no disagreements with the players and assured them that outstanding payments for friendly matches and qualifying matches would be settled once the World Cup funds are received.
The NFF criticized FIFPRO for not having an affiliate body in Nigeria and challenged the organization to establish a representative body in the country that truly understands the local culture and context.
In light of the ongoing situation, the NFF urged FIFPRO to address substantial issues and responsibilities rather than attempting to create sensationalism from afar.
