Levi Colwill has signed a new six-year contract with Chelsea, with an option for a further year, News About Nigeria confirms.
The 20-year-old defender had attracted interest from clubs like Brighton and Liverpool, but he asserted that staying at Chelsea was an “easy decision” for him.
Expressing his gratitude, Colwill recalled his early days with the club, coming in as a trialist at Cobham. He remembered feeling nervous at the time but quickly fell in love with the training and the environment.
The turning point for the young English talent came on his ninth birthday when he was offered a contract, a moment he described as “unbelievable.”
He expressed gratitude for the journey he has undertaken, growing and developing through hard work.
Colwill also emphasized that Chelsea has been a significant part of his life, having been with the club from a young age. Colwill’s decision to remain with Chelsea was also influenced by assurances and trust from the manager.
He highlighted the support he received from the coach, making him feel valued as both a player and a person.
The young talent praised the manager’s commitment to maintaining high standards, pushing the players to excel professionally. With his long-term commitment to the club, he’s eager to continue his development and contribute to Chelsea’s success at next season in the English Premier League.
Recall that he spent the last season on loan to Brighton who have now demanded a jaw-breaking fee from Chelsea for one of their midfielders, Moises Caicedo.
Brighton wished to table bids for Colwill, but Chelsea gave them no opportunity to do so, insisting his services will be needed at Stamford Bridge next season.
This has been rumoured to be part of the reasons why Brighton has maintained their £100m valuation for Caicedo, even when the player has agreed to personal terms with the Blues.
