The Glazer family has decided to ‘pause’ the sale of Manchester United, over a new deal valued at £900m with Adidas, News About Nigeria gathered.
The now infamous owners earlier put the Premier League club up for sale nine months ago, seeking “strategic alternatives.”
Despite receiving bids from leading candidates like INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Glazers have yet to finalize a deal.
One of the perceived reasons behind the pause in the takeover process is United’s lucrative partnership with Adidas, valued at £900 million, running until June 2035.
Additionally, the Glazers are keen to assess the upcoming Premier League TV deals and the growth of football in the United States before making any decisions.
This wait-and-see approach has left the club’s supporters divided, with many desperately hoping for a change in ownership after a decade without a Premier League title and 15 years without a Champions League triumph.
Despite the slow progress, both Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim remain interested in buying United.
Ratcliffe aims to obtain a controlling share of the club, while Sheikh Jassim seeks a full takeover.
“We want to be custodians of one of the biggest sporting teams, brands, in the world and trying to really support the team and go back to the success they deserve,” said Sir Dave Brailsford, INEOS’ director of sport.
Anonymous members of the 1958 Group, a United supporters’ group, voiced their strong desire for the Glazers to sell up during a recent interview.
They expressed deep frustration, with some stating they would even accept United’s decline if it meant the Glazer family would leave.
The ongoing takeover talks continue to be a source of intense speculation and emotion among United fans, as they await further developments in the ownership saga.
