CAF Awards Set For Return On December 11 In Morocco

The highly anticipated 2023 CAF Awards are all set to take place on December 11 in Morocco, News About Nigeria confirms.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) disclosed this in an official statement, marking another grand celebration of African football’s brightest stars.

The prestigious event will recognize the standout performers from both club and country over the past year.

Last year’s CAF Awards ceremony, held in the Moroccan capital of Rabat, saw Senegal’s inspirational forward Sadio Mane and Nigeria’s prolific striker Asisat Oshoala claim the coveted honors.

This year, the ceremony is expected to showcase an array of Africa’s finest talents who have excelled on the footballing stage throughout the past 12 months.

With the crowning of the CAF African Player of the Year in both the men’s and women’s categories as the highlight of the event, fans can expect tough competition among the nominees this year.

Mane and Oshoala will face stiff challenges from some of the continent’s brightest stars who have dazzled fans with their skill and talent over the past year.

Previous winners of the men’s category read like a who’s who of African football legends, including Ivorian Yaya Toure, Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o, Ivory Coast’s Didier Drogba, Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Algeria’s Riyad Mahrez, Nigeria’s Nwankwo Kanu, Ghana’s Abedi Pele, and the iconic Liberian striker George Weah, amongst others.

In the women’s category, while Oshoala has dominated the category in recent years, winning in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019 and 2022 – she still faces competition from previous winners, including Thembi Kgatlana (2018). This category counts among its previous winners, former Super Falcon Perpetua Nkwocha (2004, 2005, 2010 and 2011).

Meanwhile, CAF disclosed that several more honours will also be at stake. They include the Interclub Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, National Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Club of the Year and Goal of the Year.

Also, the Interclub Women’s Player of the Year award, which was introduced last year after the successful launch of the CAF Women’s Champions League, will continue this year.

As anticipation builds for the upcoming awards ceremony, football enthusiasts from across Africa will patiently wait for the announcement of the host city and the exact time of the event.
