Kashim Shettima, the vice president of Nigeria, is currently in Rome to attend the UN Food Systems Summit on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.
According to News About Nigeria, the event starts today, Monday, July 24, and is supposed to end on Wednesday, July 26.
Shettima is making his first official trip to Rome since the current Nigerian government took office.
Some Nigerian diplomats welcomed Shettima at Leonardo Da Vinci Airport at 7:45 p.m. Italian time, according to Olusola Abiola, the director of information for the vice president’s office.
Mfawa Omini Abam, the ambassador of Nigeria to Italy, Ugochukwu Onuzulike, the head of the consular department of the Nigerian embassy in Italy, and Chima Ibezim, the head of the Nigerian community in Rome, attended the welcome celebration.
The vice president left the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Sunday afternoon, escorted by the deputy chief of staff to the president, the vice president’s office, and other government representatives.
He is anticipated to travel to St. Petersburg, Russia, where he will represent President Tinubu at the next Russia-Africa Summit.
The Vice President will participate in the first Stocktaking Moment (STM) Summit in Rome with other world leaders on the topic “Transforming Food Systems for People, Planet, and Prosperity.”
This was due to a measure to strengthen the current government’s effort for good governance, and President Tinubu has apologized for being absent from the summit.
