Renowned football finance expert Rob Wilson from Sheffield Business School has suggested that Manchester United, Arsenal, and Newcastle United all have a realistic chance of signing Kylian Mbappe, News About Nigeria reports.
Wilson argues that leaving “second-tier club” Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for a European giant would make financial sense for the young forward.
Speaking on the popular UK YouTube channel FruitySlots.com, he emphasized that Mbappe’s status as an iconic sportsman warrants a move to a club with significant global reach, which would optimize his brand leverage.
While PSG is a prominent club, Wilson contends that the French side has not fully capitalized on the immense brand potential of a player of Mbappe’s stature.
He points out that PSG is generally considered second-tier in comparison to clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid, which enjoy far-reaching global recognition.
Moving to one of these European giants could be a game-changing opportunity for the 22-year-old, aligning him with the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, and Beckham in terms of brand value.
Wilson also acknowledges that acquiring a player of Mbappe’s caliber comes with immense pressure for him to perform on the pitch.
However, he believes that the benefits for a club in terms of brand alignment and commercial opportunities would far outweigh the challenges.
Wilson added that clubs like Manchester United and Real Madrid are always in search of superstars who can elevate their brands to new heights, and Mbappe fits that bill perfectly.
The football finance expert further highlighted the potential significance of the Qataris’ involvement in the acquisition.
He suggests that if the Qataris were to take over Manchester United, given their existing ties with PSG, it could open up a realistic path for Mbappe to join the English club.
