Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has taken a significant step to alleviate the financial burden faced by civil servants in the state.

In an official statement posted on his verified Twitter account, Governor Nwifuru announced a salary increase of N10,000 for civil servants in Ebonyi State.

The decision was reached during a meeting of the State Executive Council (EXCO) on July 13, 2023.

News About Nigeria reports that the governor emphasized that this salary increase was a reflection of his administration’s dedication to improving the welfare of civil servants.

In addition to the salary increment, Governor Nwifuru revealed that the EXCO had granted approval for the employment of 1,454 new civil servants within the state’s civil service.

The official statement released by the governor’s office reads as follows:

“The State Executive Council Meeting held on July 13, 2023, received a comprehensive report from the Head of Service regarding the need to recruit capable individuals from Ebonyi State for various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the State Civil Service.

In light of this, the EXCO has granted approval for the recruitment of 1,454 Ebonyi indigenes into the State Civil Service. Furthermore, the EXCO has authorized a salary increase of Ten Thousand Naira (N10,000.00) for each of our dedicated Civil Servants.”

Governor Nwifuru’s timely announcement is especially significant given the current financial hardships experienced by civil servants nationwide.

The recent removal of fuel subsidy by the Bola Tinubu-led federal government has resulted in a steep rise in petrol prices, subsequently impacting the costs of various goods and services.

By taking proactive measures to enhance the livelihoods of civil servants, the governor has demonstrated his commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Ebonyi State’s workforce.

This salary increase is expected to provide much-needed relief to civil servants grappling with the economic challenges brought about by recent policy changes.
