Former Attorney of Abia State Launches Landmark N500 Million Lawsuit Against Ikpeazu’s Deputy Chief of Staff

Former Abia State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Chief Ume Kalu, SAN, has taken legal action against Chief Don Ubani, the former Deputy Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, News About Nigeria reports.

Chief Kalu, who previously served under both Ikpeazu and former Governor Theodore Orji, filed a N500 million libel suit against Ubani, accusing him of tarnishing his reputation.

News About Nigeria reported that the lawsuit, dated July 10 and labeled FCT/HC/CV/6777/2023, was submitted to the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In addition to the hefty damages, Chief Kalu is demanding unreserved apologies from Ubani, which must be published in two prominent newspapers.

Ubani, a former Commissioner for Information in Abia State, allegedly published a defamatory article titled “What a demeaning unprofessional conduct by Ume Kalu, SAN” on his Facebook page on June 14.

The legal battle between these two prominent figures in Abia State is set to unfold in court.

Chief Kalu, who is now a chieftain of the Labour Party, seeks to restore his damaged reputation and seek redress for the alleged harm caused.
