Rivers State Police Command personnel murdered six alleged kidnappers during a raid on their hideout at Obelle town in the state’s Emohua local government area, News About Nigeria reports.
The Commissioner of Police, Nwonyi Emeka, made the announcement while speaking to the press in Port Harcourt on Friday, July 7, 2023. He also stated that operatives had apprehended six suspected cultists and kidnappers who had been terrorizing the Emohua local government axis on the East-West Road.
According to the CP, operatives from the Anti-cultism and Tactical Units assaulted the hideout of a gang led by one Uchechukwu Daniel, and when the hoodlums saw the Police, they opened fire.
He went on to say that the police replied and that in the exchange of gunfire, six of the hoodlums were killed, six were captured, and others escaped with bullet wounds in various directions.
On June 30, 2023, Police operatives on patrol around King Perekule Junction, GRA, Port Harcourt, stopped and rescued a kidnap victim, who told how one of their companions was kidnapped and taken away, according to the Police Commissioner.
According to the police chief, on July 6, 2023, police operatives traced kidnappers to their hideout, victims were freed unharmed at Ozuoha community in the state’s Ikwerre local government area, and one Mr. Buchi David was apprehended.
He listed collected evidence as one locally made arm, two cut-to-size weapons, and six bullets.
According to the Police Commissioner, on Friday, June 30, 2023, a cult-related activity was taking place at Hospital Road, Bonny, but the cultists fled when they saw the Police, and only one pistol, a bag, and a techno phone were confiscated.
On June 20, 2023, the Special Area Division at Rumudomaya community in Obio-Akpor local government area and a local vigilance group busted a criminal hideaway in the community, according to CP Emeka.
He claimed that suspects, both men and women, aged 15 to 28 years old, were apprehended and various hard drugs were recovered from them.
He further added that when the united team of Policemen and vigilantes assaulted the hideout at Slaughter, behind Rumuokoro Market, also in the Obio-Akpor local government area, three Police Mobile Force (PMF) uniforms, an Army cap, a locally made pistol, and live cartridges were seized.
The CP further revealed that on July 5, 2023, while on patrol at Yokuru community in Khana local government area, operatives of the Anti-cultism section, Bori annexe arrested one Baridara Baridam, nicknamed ‘Ojukwu,’ who had been on the Police wanted list.
He claims the suspect is a member of a three-man group that terrorizes the Ogoni axis of the East-West road.
Emeka listed two AK47 riffles among the evidence retrieved from the suspect.
