Renowned Nigerian actor and politician, Kenneth Okonkwo, has called for the immediate resignation of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, amidst allegations of possessing a fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate, News About Nigeria reports.

The controversy surrounding the governor’s certificate arose when the NYSC officially declared, in a letter dated February 1 and signed by Ibrahim Muhammed, that they had not issued any certificate to Governor Mbah.

Subsequently, Mbah filed a lawsuit against the NYSC and Muhammed for publishing a disclaimer, denying the authenticity of the certificate he claimed was issued to him on January 6, 2003.

Expressing his viewpoint on the matter, Okonkwo, a prominent member of the Labour Party, took to Twitter to express his thoughts.

He stated that in a more civilized country, Governor Mbah would have voluntarily resigned in light of the NYSC’s confirmation that his certificate is indeed fake.

Okonkwo further emphasized that the governor’s unbecoming conduct reflects poorly on the people of Enugu and urged him to step down before facing public disgrace.

Regrettably, Okonkwo lamented the negative image that Governor Mbah’s actions are casting upon the citizens of Enugu State.

He respectfully appealed to the governor to act in the best interest of the people and salvage them from the collective shame caused by this scandalous revelation.

In light of recent events, it has become increasingly apparent that Governor Mbah’s position may be compromised due to the alleged possession of a fraudulent NYSC discharge certificate.

Okonkwo believes that in a more morally upright society, the governor would have already taken the honorable route of resignation, considering the damning evidence against him.
