During his recent concert in London, Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, made a late entrance to the stage due to technical difficulties with the backdrop at the stadium.
News About Nigeria reports that the Head of Security at the London stadium disclosed that Burna Boy insisted on the backdrop working properly before commencing his performance, despite the risk of potential fines.
The security officer revealed that if the delay had lasted for 30 minutes, Burna Boy could have been subjected to a hefty fine of £150,000.
A Nigerian man named Nnamdi, who was studying International Sports Law, shared a video of the chief security officer explaining the incident.
According to Nnamdi’s account, Burna Boy was already on stage, preparing to begin his performance.
However, a member of his team who was responsible for controlling the stadium lights encountered difficulties with his laptop, struggling to activate the desired lighting setup.
Unfortunately, the person did not have a backup laptop, which posed a significant challenge.
The situation was further complicated by the curfew imposed at the London stadium.
If the concert exceeded the designated time, Burna Boy would have been forced to halt his performance, and his promoter would have been liable to pay £150,000 for every additional 30 minutes beyond the deadline.
Nnamdi commended Burna Boy for prioritizing perfection over proceeding with a subpar stage setup. The artist’s insistence on resolving the technical issue before starting the show showcased his dedication to delivering a high-quality performance to his fans.
He tweeted; “Burna such a perfectionist. Having a lecture at the London stadium and the head of security explaining how Burna refused to go on stage on time because the stadium back drops were not working properly risking £150,000 fine for each extra 30.”
