Declan Rice has been given permission to undergo Arsenal’s medicals after the Gunners met West Ham’s fee for the player, News About Nigeria reports.
Arsenal has agreed a deal worth £100 million plus £5 million add-ons to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United.
The Gunners became the sole contender for the player after Manchester City backed out following the Emirate club’s recent bid.
City recently got their £90 million offer rejected by The Hammers who maintained an £100 million valuation for their skipper.
Arsenal has successfully sealed off competition from Premier League champions Manchester City to secure the 24-year-old’s signature in what could represent a major takeover for manager Mikel Arteta, since gunning for players with rival clubs.
Meanwhile, talks were still ongoing on Wednesday night over how Arsenal’s payments are structured, but both clubs expect a swift resolution and Rice has been told he is free to discuss personal terms and have medical tests at the club.
The deal will smash Arsenal’s transfer record of £72 million paid for LOSC Lille former player Nicolas Pepe in 2019 and make Rice the most expensive British footballer in history.
Rice is said to have also held talks with Newcastle, but Arsenal was always his preferred destination, having had some encounters on and off the pitch with Mikel Arteta.
The London club now looks very optimistic about having the player, after two previous failed bids.
They hope to keep their competitiveness next season, after almost costing City the Premier League last season but ending up finishing second.
Rice will be in the company of Chelsea’s Kai Havertz who has also been secured by the club for £65 million, having featured in 139 games for The Blues, scoring 32 goals.
Arsenal is also expected to move for Ajax full-back Jurrien Timber, but that will be after signing off the papers with the England international [Rice].
