The detained suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, will have his fate determined on July 13 as he awaits the ruling on his detention by the Directorate of State Services (DSS), News About Nigeria reports.
The sequence of events leading to Mr. Emefiele’s current predicament began approximately two weeks ago when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended him from his position as the apex banker.
Shortly thereafter, the suspended governor was apprehended by the DSS, resulting in his confinement.
Throughout his detention, Mr. Emefiele has been kept incommunicado by the secret service, with limited access to the outside world.
However, taking legal action, he and his lawyer, Chief Joseph Daudu, SAN, approached the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory seeking an order to grant him access to his family members and legal representation.
The court, last week, granted his request, allowing him the opportunity to connect with his loved ones and legal counsel.
Yesterday, the court heard arguments from the counsels involved in the case.
After careful consideration, the court decided to defer the ruling on the matter until July 13, when a final decision will be made regarding Mr. Emefiele’s detention.
The case has garnered significant attention, given Mr. Emefiele’s position as the suspended governor of the CBN.
The central bank plays a crucial role in Nigeria’s financial system, and any developments concerning its leadership are of public interest.
However, it is important to note that the court’s decision will solely address the issue of Mr. Emefiele’s detention and not the allegations or circumstances that led to his suspension.
As the public awaits the outcome of the ruling, various speculations and discussions surrounding the case continue to circulate.
