The government of Plateau State has implemented a complete lockdown in the Mangu Local Government Area due to a devastating terrorist assault on Sunday evening, News About Nigeria reports.

According to reports, a group of unidentified terrorists infiltrated several communities in the region and indiscriminately fired at innocent civilians.

At the time of reporting, the exact number of casualties in the affected communities remains unconfirmed.

However, sources have verified that the assailants targeted at least four communities within the LGA, including Mangu town, resulting in the loss of numerous lives and the destruction of several houses.

Bala Fwangji, a legislator representing the Mangu South constituency, corroborated the incident.

Fwangji expressed, “I can only inform you that our people in Mangu are under attack. They are mercilessly assaulting and killing our citizens without restraint. The attacks commenced today in the Bwai community, then progressed to Mangu town, and have now spread to Sabon Gari. Our people desperately require assistance. To contain the situation, the Local Government authority has imposed a 24-hour curfew in the LGA.”

Markus Artu, the chairman of the Interim Management Committee in the LGA, officially announced the curfew through a statement provided to the media.

Artu declared,A 24-hour curfew has been implemented in the Mangu Local Government Area. Consequently, all vehicular movement is prohibited. Furthermore, the use of motorcycles is banned until further notice. Only security personnel and essential workers will be permitted to travel.”

Earlier, the Nigeria Police Force had deployed officers to the troubled LGA and other areas of the state in an effort to safeguard the population from ongoing terrorist attacks that have persisted in recent months.
