Hon. Benjamin Kalu, the newly elected Member for Bende federal constituency in Abia State, has been chosen as the Deputy Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives without any opposition, News About Nigeria reports.

This appointment comes shortly after Tajudeen Abbas secured a resounding victory and became the new Speaker of the House.

Abbas emerged triumphant in a highly competitive Speakership election, where he outperformed Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase and Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji.

The nomination of Kalu was put forward by Babajimi, a lawmaker-elect from Lagos, and was seconded by a female member-elect from the same state.

Accepting the nomination, Kalu faced no counter-nominations, prompting the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Magaji Tambuwal, to officially close further nominations at exactly 12:06 noon.

As a result, Kalu was declared the Deputy Speaker and subsequently took the oaths of office and membership of the National Assembly.

As the newly elected Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu will play a crucial role in assisting Speaker Tajudeen Abbas in carrying out his duties and responsibilities effectively.

Kalu’s position as the Deputy Speaker grants him significant influence and responsibilities within the legislative body.

One of the primary ways in which Kalu will support Abbas is by serving as his deputy and stepping in to fulfill the Speaker’s duties in his absence. This includes presiding over sessions, maintaining order, and ensuring that the proceedings run smoothly.

Kalu will act as a representative and spokesperson for the House of Representatives, working closely with the Speaker to uphold the integrity and efficiency of the legislative process.
