Super Eagles duo, Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho has been named players of the season for their respective English Premier League (EPL) clubs, News About Nigeria reports.
While Iwobi won the award for Everton, Iheanacho scooped that of Leicester City, following an influential campaign for the two forwards.
Iwobi, 27, was the fortunate player, after the keenly contested award which was determined by several yardsticks including impacts on the pitch, and team spirit, among other factors.
The award is his first with the club, following his arrival from Arsenal in 2019.
His stint during the just concluded campaign made him a delight to watch by the club’s supporters. He registered two goals and provided a record of eight assists, over the course of the 2022/23 campaign for the Toffees.
His contributions no doubt, assisted Everton manage a near-relegation campaign. Their 1-0 victory against Bournemouth on the final day of the season, ensured this.
On the other hand, Iheanacho bagged five goals, with five assists in 28 match appearances in the just concluded Premier League, to claim his club’s Player of the Season award.
The Super Eagles player scored a total of eight goals in 35 appearances across all competitions for the Foxes in the 2022/23 season.
Though Leicester won’t be in the Premier League next season, after suffering relationships, the former Manchester City player has something to fall back on, a consolation after a devastating season.
