Manchester United has emerged leading contender to sign Chelsea’s attacking midfielder Mason Mount if he’s willing to leave the club this summer, News About Nigeria reports.
Although Mount’s contract with Chelsea expires in 2024, Machester United is, willing to cash in on his complicated stay.
However, Chelsea has engaged the 24-year-old England international to sign a new deal, but the player has shown a lack of interest, with his focus on the wage structure the club is willing to offer him.
Meanwhile, these discussions have not yet found a final agreement and could linger till the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea’s new manager, which could change the dynamics of the situation.
Pochettino will likely hold talks with the player and determine if he is integral to his team’s forward or reconsider his commitment to his boyhood club.
Reports also show that Chelsea is willing to let Mount off if he sees his future elsewhere but will demand in excess of 70 million British Pounds from any club coming for him.
Mount has played 35 matches across all competitions for Chelsea this season, scoring only three goals with six assists.
Manchester United and Liverpool have been major contenders for the player, with United showing more interest.
Though no figures have been proposed yet by either of the clubs, it is believed that the coming days might determine the young player’s fate.
Recall that Chelsea has struggled to keep pace throughout the 2022/23 season, finishing the league at the bottom half.
They hope to bring in Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the campaign, to help lift the mentality of the players and return the club to winning ways.
