Nigerian R&B singer Nonso Amadi recently shared his belief that his style of music differs significantly from that of industry heavyweights such as Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy.
In a candid interview on the Afrobeats Podcast hosted by Adesope Olajide, Amadi expressed his admiration for these Afrobeats stars but maintained that his music stands apart in its uniqueness.
News About Nigeria gathered that Nonso emphasized that he aims to build his own musical identity rather than duplicating the success of established artists, and he advised aspiring musicians to focus on standing out rather than imitating others.
Nonso said; “I am not making the same music as Burna Boy and Wizkid and others. I’m making music that I love. I’m inspired and influenced by them but there is only one Nonso Amadi.”
Meanwhile, Twitter influencer Daniel Regha sparked a debate by suggesting that Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy should not be compared to Olamide, Wizkid, and Davido.
Regha argued that Burna Boy is still considered an up-and-coming artist when compared to the other three renowned musicians. Speaking on Doyin’s Corner, hosted by Big Brother Naija star Doyin David, Regha pointed out that Burna Boy was not as prominent during the prime years of Wizkid, Davido, and Olamide’s success.
He also noted Olamide’s extensive catalog of hit songs, finding it amusing when people prioritize Burna Boy over the YBNL founder.
Regha emphasized that each musician has their own space in the industry, drawing a comparison between Tubaba and Wizkid and Davido to illustrate that different artists belong to different categories.
He attributed Burna Boy’s widespread recognition to the streaming era, suggesting that if past artists had the advantage of streaming platforms, their songs would also have achieved widespread popularity.
He said; “Burna is still an upcomer compared to Wizkid, Davido and Olamide. When those artistes were popping, Burna was nowhere to be found…Burna is mostly popping now because he is in the streaming era.”
