Innoson Vehicle, a leading Nigerian automobile manufacturing company, has awarded a scholarship worth three million naira to Joy Ejikeme, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School Nnewi, after she achieved the highest score in the recently concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), News About Nigeria reports.
In a press statement released on Monday, the company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Cornel Osigwe, revealed that the scholarship was awarded to celebrate academic excellence and to fulfill the company’s commitment to investing in the education of young Nigerians.
The scholarship will enable Ejikeme to pursue her tertiary education with ease over the next five years by providing financial support.
Ejikeme, who is from Enugu State and resides with her father in Nnewi, Anambra State, achieved the highest overall score in the 2023 UTME, scoring 362 out of 400. Her scores were 98 in English Language, 89 in Physics, 94 in Biology, and 81 in Chemistry.
She expressed gratitude to Innocent Chukwuma, the Chairman of the group, and promised to make him proud.
The company’s statement noted that it will continue to demonstrate its commitment to social responsibility through various initiatives, including scholarship awards, job creation, and support for local communities.
The UTME is a required test for Nigerian students who wish to further their education in the country. For many tertiary institutions in the country, the UTME is one of two tests that qualifies a student the chance for admission. The second is widely regarded as an aptitude test or post-UTME.”
