President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Abike Dabiri-Erewa for another term as the Chair of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), News About Nigeria reports.

This was communicated in a letter to the Senate requesting the Upper Chamber to confirm her reappointment.

Dabiri-Erewa was first appointed in November 2018, having previously served as Senior Special Adviser to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora.

During her time in the House of Representatives from 2003 to 2015, Abike Dabiri-Erewa was a member representing the Ikorodu Federal Constituency in Lagos. She also served as the Chair of the House Committee on Diaspora Affairs.

Besides Abike Dabiri-Erewa’s reappointment, President Buhari also wrote to the Senate requesting confirmation of six federal commissioners for the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to fill the current vacancies in states.

The nominated commissioners include Ayogu Eze, Peter Okpara, Hauwa Aliyu, Rajiya Ayuba, Kolawole Adebola, and Ismailia Agaka.

Meanwhile, the Senate has tasked its Committee on interior to investigate the delay in the issuance and renewal of passports by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

In addition, the Senate has asked the committee to investigate the contract for printing passports by the NIS.

This follows a motion by Senator Uche Ekwunife, who highlighted the difficulties and stress that Nigerians face in obtaining passports.

Despite the NIS’s six-week timeline to process passports, Nigerians are reportedly waiting between three to six months to obtain them.

In some areas, such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Abuja, it has become increasingly difficult to obtain passports, leading residents to travel to other states in the country to apply for them.
