Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala was in action as Barcelona cruised pass Chelsea to qualify for a third consecutive UEFA women’s Champions League final on Thursday.
News About Nigeria confirmed that Barcelona had took the lead with a goal from Caroline Graham Hansen three minutes pass the hour time (63) and the equalizer coming four minutes after (67), from Chelsea’s Guro Reitenere, forcing a 1-1 draw on the Blues in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final at the Spotify Camp Nou.
However, the draw could not help Chelsea, the visitors, but was enough for Barcelona to go through 2-1 on aggregate after they won the first leg 1-0 in London.
Oshoala, the Nigeria international though not on the score sheet for Barca, was featured in the last night’s game before she was replaced in the 60th minute.
Chelsea began well at the Spotify Nou Camp, but Barcelona soon began to find their rhythm. They had the ball in the back of the net early on, but it was ruled out for handball.
Frida Rolfo sent the cross in from the left with neither Maren Mjelde or Magda Eriksson able to stop it. It found Graham Hansen, who slotted home, but not before hitting her arm on the way through.
Barcelona will now face any team that qualify between Arsenal or Wolfsburg in the final billed for Saturday, June 3rd.
In their first leg semi-final meeting in Germany, Arsenal came from 2-0 down to draw against Wolfsburg.
The reverse fixture comes up on Monday, May 1st at the Emirates stadium in England .
Barcelona won their first women’s Champions League title in 2021 when they thrashed Chelsea 4-0 in a dramatic win.
Emma Hayes’ side will now refocus their efforts on the WSL title race – which they resume next week – as well as preparing for an FA Cup final meeting with Manchester United at Wembley on May 14.
