On Tuesday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) commenced the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination (UTME) nationwide, with over 1.6 million candidates expected to participate in the exercise.
The examination, which will span over a period of nine days, will be conducted across 700 Computer Based Test (CBT) centres in the country.
According to reports, there were minor hitches at some examination centres, but the overall conduct of the exercise was largely hitch-free and orderly. Candidates were checked into the examination hall using the Biometric Verification Machine (BVM) in line with JAMB’s policy of “no biometric verification, no examination”.
While some candidates commended the Board for the orderly conduct of the examination, others reported minor issues such as malfunctioning keyboards and delay at the start of the examination.
However, the Head of Public Relations of JAMB, Dr Fabian Benjamin, assured that the Board has put in place measures to ensure a smooth conduct of the examination.
Candidates were advised to print their 2023 UTME notification slips which contain information on the location of the examination centre, date and time of the examination, and other necessary information.
It was also emphasized that the ban on prohibited items such as flash drives, smart watches, calculators, mobile phones, and pieces of jewellery is still in force, and violators of the code of conduct will face necessary sanctions.
As the UTME 2023 continues across the country, it is hoped that the minor hitches experienced at some examination centres will be resolved, and that the overall conduct of the exercise will remain hitch-free and orderly.
