In a recent visit to the Government House in Owerri, the Imo State Council of Elders led by its Chairman, Dr. Cletus Iluomuanya, endorsed the second term bid of Governor Hope Uzodinma, News About Nigeria reports.

The council expressed its support for the governor’s re-election, citing his developmental agenda for the state as the reason for their endorsement.

During the visit, Dr. Iluomunaya also called for the adoption of the Imo Charter of Equity, which proposes an equitable rotation of power and key political offices among the three senatorial zones in the state.

This move aims to ensure that all zones have equal representation and an opportunity to govern the state.

The council chairman also presented Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu as the consensus candidate for the next President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, replacing the late Ambassador George Obiozor.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo is a socio-cultural organization that represents the interests of the Igbo people in Nigeria and the diaspora.

In response to the endorsement, Governor Uzodinma welcomed the idea of the Imo Charter of Equity, stating that it would redefine the political landscape of the state and serve the ultimate good of all its people.

He also expressed his administration’s commitment to supporting the position of the council of elders on Iwuanyanwu as the President General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

The Imo Charter of Equity has been a long-standing issue in the state, with many stakeholders advocating for a fair and equitable distribution of political power among the three senatorial zones.

The adoption of this charter would ensure that all zones have equal representation and an opportunity to govern the state, thus promoting unity and development.
